The hard drive is locked. I need to unlock it. My Xbox doesn't work, so I can't use it to help me. I need to unlock and/or completely reformat it using only the computer. Original Xbox hard drive won't unlock? I got a couple of original Xboxs recently and I'm trying to softmod one of them with Xboxhdm 1.9. The problem is even following all the instructions I've found online the HD just refuses to unlock.
Hi, xboxhdm is availiable only for Windows, but since it mostly just wraps some common Linux tools, I thought I could do well without Windows. However, could it be that it's build of smartctl is somewhat special? When I try to run the command from lockhdd.bat, which is smartctl -s security-eeprom-setpass,eeprom.bin /dev/sdx I get INVALID ARGUMENT TO -s: security-eeprom-setpass VALID ARGUMENTS ARE: on, off, aam,N off, apm,N off, lookahead,on off, security-freeze, standby,N off now, wcache,on off, rcache,on off, wcreorder,on off. Hey I tried this and had some troubles. This is my first time trying to build a new hard drive for my xbox so I think I am messing up somewhere.
I can get the drive to unlock and lock seemingly ok. I used the left in the C folder of and after the Xbox boots it freezes on a black screen after the green Xbox logo and small white Microsoft text pops up. EDIT: After trying it a few more times, I was able to get the Xbox to boot by deleting the prepackaged C drive files and throwing the on.
Then I transferred the save and softmod installer over with my memory card and softmodded the Xbox again. The SATA dock I used:. When I tried to use xboxhdm2.3 on windows qemu the device was not able to be detected because the tool is only searching for removable USB drives and this dock has the drives showing as internal disks. However I was able to pass through on Linux just fine and xboxhdm detected the drive on /dev/sda without any problems. My commands if other people are curious. I downloaded the and placed it inside the XboxHD folder with the rest of the batch files files.

Yeah so files provided by Rocky's XboxHDM were not allowing the Xbox to boot. It would reach the end of the Xbox boot animation, then when the little white 'MICROSOFT' text appears it would freeze.
I was going a different route and allowing XboxHDM to fully initialize the drive, using the distro to create the new hard drive. To fix the issue I loaded the stock dashboard files into the C drive target folder and then re-ran XboxHDM with qemu to create the hard drive.

After I stopped messing about with his provided files, the Xbox booted on the first try with the stock dashboard. After that I decided to count it as a win, and then just softmodded the Xbox again with Mech Assault.
I just made a backup of the old HDD with dd.
